Against the backdrop of Ireland’s spiralling homeless crisis
Narrated by broadcaster Dave Fanning

Synopsis: Home is a raw and deeply human documentary directed by Scott Altman, narrated by Dave Fanning, that goes to the very heart of Ireland’s homelessness crisis. Over 35 minutes, the film weaves together stories of resilience, addiction, tragedy and hope from those without a place to call home.
Filmed on the streets of Dublin and inside the landmark Apollo House occupation, the documentary captures the voices of residents, activists, musicians, and filmmakers — including contributions from Glen Hansard, Jim Sheridan, Brendan Ogle, Fr. Peter McVerry, and Paul Alwright (FKA Lethal Dialect).
Full of grit, heartbreak, and determination, Home is both an urgent call to action and a testament to the strength of those too often ignored.
The Story Behind Home
Created by Irish-born, London-based filmmaker Scott Altman, Home emerged from a bold decision to pick up a camera and embed himself within the heart of Dublin’s homeless crisis. From the impromptu street performances on Grafton Street, to access inside Apollo House during its dramatic occupation, Altman captured moments that most media outlets overlooked.
The documentary doesn’t just present statistics — it tells human stories: Tommy, the musician from Ballymun whose addiction journey reflects systemic failure; Sharon, who lost two children and found herself back on the streets; Derek, who speaks candidly about heroin use inside prison; and Patrick, who has lived on Dublin’s streets since 2006, settling into a doorway most nights.
Home is not only a record of a crisis, but a film shaped by empathy, raw access, and urgency.
